Q What can be the cause of high triglycerides?

Eating a diet high in saturated fat, trans fats, refined carbohydrates, sugar and alcohol can increase your triglyceride levels. Swap out refined carbohydrates (e.g., white bread, muffins, cookies, crackers, rolls, cake, doughnuts, sweets, etc) for whole grains (e.g., oats, barley, brown rice, whole wheat, quinoa, etc). Avoid fruit juice, sugary drinks, added sugar and foods high in saturated fat (e.g., butter, cream, cheese, ice cream, fried foods, high fat meats like sausage, hot dogs, hamburger) and trans fats (foods with partially hydrogenated vegetable oil listed on the label).
