Visitor Questions
Q Are darker colored foods more nutritious than lighter-colored ones.

While we certainly recommend that you choose brightly colored fruits and vegetables for maximum nutrition, research also shows that lightly colored foods (e.g, white potatoes, bananas, cauliflower, etc) have a unique set of plant nutrients that offer important health benefits. Bright colored plant foods do typically offer a very nutrient-dense and diverse array of these natural plant pigments, which offer important disease protective qualities. However, as you will see from our list of WHFoods, we feature mushrooms, white potatoes, cauliflower, garlic and leeks, all of which are lightly colored or white foods. We feature them because of their rich nutrient profile and unique plant compounds that offer important health benefits.

Importantly, we wouldn't recommend that you compare one food such as Jerusalem artichokes are more nutritious than sweet potatoes or yams, we would just recommend that you include a wide variety of these healthy foods as part of your diet to give your body a diverse intake of many different nutrients and natural plant compounds for optimal health and disease prevention.
